Timothy Quinlan, a middle aged boardinghoiise keener, was found seriously ill suffering from the effects of ■ poison in the Esplanade. He died subsequently at the hospital. MAORI LAD DROWNED. WEEK-END BLAZES
WELLINGTON. April 15. There were several week-end Tiros but none did any great damage. An engine on the auxiliary schooner Kairburn lying at King’s wharf backfired and set the engine room alight, 'nit the crew managed to extinguish the flames with the Harbour Board hose.
A motor lorry at Brooklyn caught lire and was badly damaged before the brigade got to it. Hot ashes from a steam healer caused a little damage to Phoenix aerated water factory.
Two small houses at Lyall Bay suffered some injury. Water had to he pumped from the sea. Insurances on the two were £1,400.
