HAY OF WALES. April 12. An attempt to find Farnlieim, which, was Amundsen’s base during his stay here in 1911 and 1912, is being made now that most of the camp work is done, and lhere is time for recreation from the laborious duties of the last, few months. It is much like looking for a needle in a haystack, but, despite the low temi>erature of 38 below zero, it is an interesting puzzle, and nearly everyone wants to participate.
Farnlieim should be four miles south near the great pressure area. At the foot of the bay there are peculiar hills of snow some of which correspond with similar features described by Amundsen, but so far the location of his hut has eluded the .most careful search. This is not so remarkable as it might seem to those who have not been ashore for any length of time on this side of the barrier, as an enormous difference of contour may be effected in sixteen years.
