TOURIST DEPARTMENT,

INCREASED BUSINESS

WELLINGTON, April 11

Passenger hookings from the different agencies for the year ended March 31 show that the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts took in cash .C20f5,073, an increase of £19,349 compared with the previous year. The bookings from the allied Department (Railways) amounted to £171,292, an increase of £7009.

“It was only in 1911.” states the general manager (Mr B. M. Wilson) in a letter to the Prime Minister, “that the system of hookimr tours through New Zealand was established, and this information may • prove useful when other people say we are not doing enough and that they could do it so much hotter.”

Sub-Inspector Cummings had no objection to this course, hut he suggested that if accused went to Auckland she should he put under the caio of Major Gordon, Female Probation Officer, there. Accused was consequently placed on probation for 12 months on condition that she left Dunedin forthwith and remained during that period under tlie care of the Probation Office in Auckland.
