N.Z. PRODUCE

DISPLAYS OVERSEAS,

The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Hon J. G. Cobbe) lias received a report from the High Commissioner as to the extent to which his office has displayed New Zealand products and manufactures at exhibitions held in the United Kingdom last year. In all 19 exhibitions were held (apart from shopping weeks and trade window displays) covering a period of D 8 days. New Zealand’s participation in all these exhibitions was arranged and carried out by the High Commissioner s Office in co-operation with the representatives of the various New Zealand produce hoards in London. The publicity section of the High Commissioner's Office was responsible for the setting up and conducting of the Dominion’s displays. In nine of the 19 exhibitions New Zealand shared space in the Empire Marketing Board's sections and was granted free space. The stands were designed and erected by the hoard without cost to the New Zealand Government.

The exhibits from New Zealand, mainly comprising meat, dairy produce, honey, kauri gum, etc., it is stated, were most attractively displayed, and undoubtedly proved a very useful advertisement. Over 110,000 samples of butter were sold of a value of nearly £IOOO, and honey samples of a value of nearly £4OO were disposed of.

The High Commissioner’s Office also undertook a fairly comprehensive dispav of New Zealand products and Manufactures at the Canadian National Exhibition held in Toronto last September. This exhibition was visited by over two million persons during its currency of two weeks, and proved to he a most useful campaign in emphasising our trade connections with our sister Dominion. The exhibits sent to Toronto, stated Air Cobbe, were specially collected in the Dominion by the Department of Industries and Com. merce for the purpose, and were considered to he so attractive as to quality, design, etc., as to warrant their purchase by the High Commissioner’s Office for future use in the United Kingdom.
