An indication of the Government s policy in connection with land settlement was given by the Prime Ministoi to-day, when replying to a deputation. Part of the Government’s policy, said the Prime Minister, was to take up land along the railway lines and made it available upon easy conditions for those anxious to take up small holdings. There were a number oi working men to-day, lie said, win wore anxious to make a start on the land, and if they could he given blocks of '2~> acres, d() acres, or To acres, it would he all for the good of the country. In connection with that policy, tlm Government, in the last tew days, said Sir Joseph Ward, had taken over a block- of land for the purpose trf nittin«r it up into blocks ol irom dO to 70 "acres. That was after they had only been a month in office. In addition to that, the Government had already succeeded in raising a loan at U per cent, with f, per cent, discount. "“They said we couldn’t got. it. said Sir Joseph, ■’hut we’ve got it.”
