Tlierc was an attendance of four thousand at the cricket match, England versus Queensland. The weather was mild, but overcast, with a fair light. The wicket was fairly true, and with the outfield faster, was in favour of the batsmen.
Leyland opened the score, with a pretty leg glance tor lour. Leyland and Ames were each hit by fast balls from Nothling, then Ames was caught from a gentle tap to slips after being tied up by Nothling. The hundred and fifty took a hundred and fifty-six minutes to compile. Geary received a ball on the chest from Nothling, necessitating play being stopped for a time. Geary was again later struck on the hands twice from the same bowler. Nothling was relieved by Thuriew, the first ball from whom was cut into the slips by Leyland and was missed by Knowles. In the next over Leyland was missed again off Hornihi'ook by Knowles, who ran in too la te.
'IVo hundred were compiled in two hundred and ten minutes. Leyland’s fifty took 7b minutes. When 7b, Leyland gave his third chance to Rowe in the slips off Nothling. The partnership produced a century in a hundred and eleven minutes, when Lev land’s hat was split. When ninety-four, Leyland gave his fourth easy chance off Howe to Thompson at mid-on, who timed jhadly, holding out one hand. Leyland reached his century in a hundred and sixty-nine minutes. Shortly after a piece flew off the back of Geary’s bat. The fielding was indifferent.
Leyland, whose 1.14 took 192 minutes, was caught at the long-on by Gough oil' Rowe, immodiattly after tea,The partnership with Geary yielded 137, made in 153’ minutes, an eighth wicket record for Queensland. The innings lasted 325 minutes. Geary’s 31 took IS!) minutes Queensland opened at five o’clock with the batsmen shaky. Gough was first out in tli'Q fourth hall of the first, over.
