The first big selection of Lop wools offered in Now Zen land this season excited a remarkably keen and highly representative bidding at the opening Auckland wool sale of the year tonight. Prices on an average exceeded those of the first sale of last year by a penny a pound. There was a full bench of buyers, representing nearly all the wool consulting centres of the world. The clip generally was heavier conditioned and more greasy than those so far offered throughout the Dominion. The prices realised were approximately on a par with those obtained a Wellington. Wanganui and Napier, and having regard to the circumstances named, are really bettor than the,\ ap-
pear. France. Germany and Bradford secured the hulk of the evening’s .offering, Bradford in particular operating much more freely than at the opening sale last year.
Bellies and pieces showed a rise of about twopence a pound on the values of November 1927, auction. Strong wools particularly sold hotter than last year, and line wools in many eases showed an improvement upon the realisations at other sales this season, hew lot were passed in.
The top price of the evening was realised by nine bales of reclassed halfbred wethers, sold lor --">d a pound. The sale will he continued to-mor-row.
