The Lake Kanieri Boat Club will Hold an opening day regatta on the Hokitika river on Saturday next commencing at 1 p.m.

On AVednesday night at Woodstock the anniversary ball takes place when a very large gathering is looked for. Music by the Black Hand Orchestra. On Thursday evening a juvenile fancy dress ball takes place with cash prizes for the best fancy costumes. •

In the cricket match at the Alental Hospital grounds yesterday - between Hokitika aiid Kanieri, Hokitika in the first innings made 109 (Freitas 47, O. J. King 19, Brown 18,; Stapleton 12). AVebster took 6 wickets and H. AVeils 2. Kanieri in the first innings made 44 (AVebster -6, J. Howat 7, E. Howat 14, E. Atoms, not out, 7), and following on had 5 wickets down for 34 when rain stopped play. Coekroft took 6 wickets in the first innings and 3 in the second.
