St. Mary’s Completion Fund
The parishioners of St. Mary’s have launched a campaign, as'a result of several enthusiastic meetings, to collect funds to extinguish the debt on the churchy caused through the completion of the interior decoration of the Parish church, Hokitika. A bazaar, commencing on Wednesday, 27th February, and concluding on Saturday, the 2nd March, is being held in the Drill Hall. Energetic workers are steadily at work to piovide for the stalls being stocked with useful and dainty articles. Four stalls will be undertaken, namely, fancy stall, cake stall, sweet stall, produce stall, and the other side stalls such as fish ponds, etc. \ The bazaar, which is being taken up enthusiastically by the Parishioners, should prove most successful. The Committee are holding a Queen Gainival, in conjunction with the Bazaar, four candidates are announced, viz., Miss Josie O’Neill, Miss Valerie Nightingale, -Miss Moira Stopiforth, and Miss Gladys Turner, these candidates being sponsored by stall holders of the four stalls. Miss O’Neill is the Country Queen (green colours), Miss Nightingale, School Queen (blue colours), Miss Moira Stopforth, Sports Queen, (gold colours), and Miss Gladys Tuinei, Fire Brigade Queen (red colours). The Produce Stall Committee are looking after the interests of the first candidate, the cake stalls tne second candidate, the fancy stall the third candidate, and the sweet stall, Miss Turner’s candidature.
