MT. EGMUNT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. Samuel Turner, of Wellington, made bis fiftieth ascent of Mount Egmont on Tuesday. A FI 11E. THAMES, November 23. A fire at 10.30 this morning completely destroyed a large building at Drown Street, used as a store belonging to A. and Cl. Price. The origin is unknown, but it was well ablaze when the alarm was given, threatening a row of two-storey shops opposite. The brigade made a splendid save. A new residence and adjoining stable used by Scotia Hotel in the early Thames days and then converted into a drill ball for Hauraki and Thames Scottish volunteers, finally being used as Hawke’s stables, from which in later gold days, a regular coach time-table run to Coromandel, Paeroa, Tearoha, and Waihi.
