THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

Fuiuied Pests Incheasing. Tlie Association of Fur Trappers suggests that the present protection upon stoats, weasels and ferrets, should be removed in view of the increasingly large number of these vermin caught annually. “Wo have taken as near a tally as possible from our members, and estimate, on an extremely conservative basis, that each trapper took at least five of these pests,” it states.' “Thus 400 trappers in tho 'Wellington district have accounted for over 2000. Bush rats are another pest that have increased alarmingly, and to say that each trapper took two per day for the season it indeed making too low an estimate. This gives us a figure of some 33,000.” —Auckland Star.
