POLAR EXPEDITION

■WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. Sir Douglas Mawson arrived from Sydney this morning. While ill England lie made investigations in regard to a suitable ship and equipment for carrying on further coastal surveys in the South Australian. region, a matter he hoped to see finalised during the coining year. Discussing various Antarctic expeditions. he said there "'as no question that Byrd's expedition might he c:. pected to return with an immense amount of valuable information relating to Boss Sea area. Very valua-d results should accrue, because ot his splendid equipment and good management. It was evident that Sir Geo. Wilkins’ expedition on the other hand, was limited in personnel and equipment, and taking with this the limitation of base, it was not likely to accumulate a great deal of information of scientific value, although it might be able to chart some of the unknown coast lines.
