WIRELESS TELEPHONY

(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

(Received this day at 10.30. a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 20.

Though not mentioned in the Imperial Telegraph Bill, cabled on 16th November, the Australian Press Association has obtained ollicial confirmation that inter-Empire wirelesstelephony will be reserved tor control by the Post Office and not be handed over to tin 1 merger company, cabled on 20th October. The fact emerges that the introduction of telephony to Australia is at least twelve months distant. The British Post Office ter observation working the beam telephony, is convinced that the telephone to Australia should be a separate beam with lower aerials and on generally cheaper principles. It has a trial transmitter ready and awaits Australia's preparedness to experiment. If this is successlul it "ill take nearly a year alter that to manufacture permanent plant transmitters. No device so far has been discovered to overcome fading. >" Dace of which there is a big doubt if telephony will have a commercial appeal to Australia.
