GENERAL ADVANCE IN PRICES

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

NAPIER, November 20.

The opening wool sales of the season in Napier was held this atteruooii when under 12,000' hales were catalogued against 1(5,000 of last November. The interruption of shearing by wet weather, is responsible lor the smallness of the offering. The conditurn of the wool is exceptionally good, being equal to 1.024-20, Hawke’s Bay’s best season, and 'this contributed in some measure to satisfactory prices being obtained. Generally prices were an improvement on the oepning sale (4 last season, and showed an all-round advance on the Wellington sale last week, the average improvement being at least a penny. Pieces atul nocks were threepence better than at Wellington, hog gets were quite a penny, and lice, e wool, generally, half a penny to threefarthings. Super-crossbred, suitable for America, and also pieces and necks were keenly sought after. Bight through the sale competition wax exceptionally spirited, and well distributed among a full bench of buyers representing all sections of Lrade. The smallness of catalogues for the opening sales in the various centres is considered to he responsible lor the keenness of the demand, and men in the trade express the opinion that prices will fall as the season progresses. The top price for hoggets was a lino of lu.lt ln-0.1 brought 221 pence. The official range of prices was no, available to-night.
