GOLFING.

N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Oct. 11. The New Zealand Golf Championship meeting opens on the Mai mace wan Links to-morrow. The very dry reason has made the coui'sei hard and dry, and the greens are fiery. The heavy rain has. however, had a. beneficial effect. All the outside competitors have arrived and have been indulging in the usual preliminary practices. The strong winds that have prevailed all the week have made play very difficult, and no oustanding returns have been made, but many of the players have shown form indicating that there should be some high-class and interesting golf at the meeting. There are indications to-day of the weather improving.
