WESTPORT HARBOR

INDIGNATION -MEETING. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WESTPORT. August If. At a largely-attended indignation meeting held in the Town Hall to-night, the Mayor, Mr J. H. Harkness presiding, it was resolved: — (a) That, while the residents of the Buller district appreciate the decision of the Government to expedite dredg' in cr operations by re-coin missioning three dredges to work on the liar and in the harbour, they view witli alarm the present inadequate depth, of water on the bar and in the roadstead, thus seriously hampering shipping operations and retarding the progress ol the district.

(b) That the 'former resolutions he affirmed as follows: (1) That a thoroughly competent harbour engineer be appointed, as this is absolutely essential for the supervision of general operations; (2) that an up-to-date bucket dredge with two hoppers be installed for tlie adequate dredging of the harbour; (3) that the residents of this district are strongly of opinion that local representation on the Advisory Board is essential; also that, in view of the unsatisfactory reply received from the Government to our former resolutions, this meeting authorises a deputation to proceed to Wellington for the purpose of placing our .. views before the Government, and that on receipt of advice from Mr H- E. Holland of the date the deputation is ducat Wellington, the following he asked to attend: Hon. Mr Mclntyre; the General Managers of the Westport Coal Co., Stockton Coal Co., Scales and Co., Ltd,, the Anchor Co., the Westpet Main Mining Cov (per Mr Reelpath at Wellington); Mr Ambury for the Cascade Co.; Mr Stew ait AA i son for the Clydenile Collieries; and the Union Coy and delegates from the District Miners’ Pnipns.
