A CORRECTION

WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. At the Magistrate’s Court last Friday, during the hearing of the case of theft against Miss Ruthe Grace Moat, Air W. E. Leicester stated she had called at the Immigration Department for help, hut was. met with the disheartening reply that since she was nominated by a private individual the Department could not help her. This statement, writes Air H. D. Thomson, TJnder-Secretnry for Immigration, is absolutely incorrect and he asks that “the following correct version be published” :

“Miss Aloat,” he says, “was nominated in London by Airs Westall to proceed to Airs Wylie, Christchurch, as a children’s nurse at 30s per week. Upon arrival in the Dominion slie immediately proceeded to this position, where she remained for three weeks, and then left of her own accord. From that time onwards until June 29, 1926, she was in various positions. On the date mentioned I met. both Aliss Aloat and Aliss Hudson in the office of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Upon hearing from them that they were unable to obtain employment, I instructed them to report at my office, stating that I would find positions for them both. Aliss Aloat called on July 4 and was offered a position as nursemaid at a home in Kelburn at 2os per week, but refused to accept; she was also offered several other domestic positions which sTie also refused, stating that she was neither in want nor without funds find that she was quite »blo to look after herself." ,
