AVIATION.
SOUTHERN CROSS READY
TO FLY
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, July 13,
With regard to tho Tasman Flight, it is the firm belief of Mr J. A. Philp, Manager of tho Union Oil Coy. Ltd., the firm which is supplying the Southern Cross with fuel and oil, that the airmen arc now ready for the trip and are waiting for tho first suitable weather.
Philp feels that tho words “any time now” used in the cable to his firm, admit of no other meaning. “Of course they may not come for a fortnight,” said Mr Philp, “but I would not be surprised to see them arrive within the next few days.”
To replenish the fuel tanks of the Southern Cross 1,200 gallons of petrol will bo needed, and a big motor tank truck will have to make two trips to the aerodrome to complete the operation. Besides petrol, 40 gallons of oil will bo taken on board.
