THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The Legislative Council mol at 2.30 p. m. The Rent Restriction Continuance Bill was reported by the Labour Bills Committee with amendments, the chief of which makes special provision for the recovery of possession of a dwelling liy a land lord where he has entered into a contract for the sale of the freehold of the house. The duration of legislation is extended to Ist January, 1929. Tn moving the second reading of the Bill Sir F. Bell said no year could have been more unsafe to romovo restrictions than tho, present year, for never before were tile poorer classes in greater danger of further charges being placed on their slender subsistence. No real hardship would be inflicted on landlords by a continuance of what was at present assured to him in rent. The Bill was road a second time.

The Seeds Importation Bill was put through the final stages and passed without amendments. Napier Foreshore Bill and Newmarket Borough Council Vesting and Empowering Bill were passed unamended. •Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Bill. Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill and Coal Miners Amendment Bill were received from the House, road a first time and second time proforma and the two former referred to tho Stock Committee, and the latter to the Mines Committee. The Council rose at 4.45 p.m. until Tuesday. THE HOUSE. 11l tho House, the. Public Service Amendment Bill was put through all stages and passed. Child Welfare Amendment Bill was considered in Committee and reported with amendments of a minor nature moved by the Minister, read a third time and passed. The House rose at 9.10 p.m. till 7.:4ft p.m. on Monday.
