COMMERCIAL ITEMS.

ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 1. There were average sized entries of stock at the metropolitan weekly market at Addington yesterday. Competition in most departments was not too bright, the heavy rain, which fell continuously throughout the day, being no doubt partly responsible for this. The entry of fat cattle was not particularly large, 470 head being penned. The sale opened with a. slack demand, hut improved later and generally prices were about on a par with late rates. Fat sheep were cheaper than at the previous sale, the easing amounting from 2s Gd to 3s Gd a head. The wet weather affected the attendance of buyers, and towards the end sales became very hard to make. Store sheep, on the whole, sold fairly well, though there were ft good rnanv passings, especially in the final stages of the markets. This, however, was due in a measure to the fact that vendors were expecting prices above market rates. The few spring lambs that came forward met keen competition. Forward store cattle, .suitable for grazing sold well, hut the demand for potting sorts was rather slack. Competition for 1 dairy cattle was dull. Vcalers fit for j butchers' purposes wore in very shore supply, and they made prices even better than tbo high ones that, havo been ruling of late.
