HOSPITAL BALL
ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS
The annual fancy dress ball in aid of the funds of the Westland Hospital was held last evening in the Drill Hall and proved another unqualified success. There was a very large attendance, about equal to that of last year. The hall was very attractively decorated with flags, greenery and mirrors and with a large number of fancy costumes made a very attractive display. Tho arrangements for the gathering were very complete, the work of the joint secretaries (Airs Paterson and Aliss Holliday) with the Chairwoman (Airs J. J. Breeze) and the very strong ladies committee resulted in everything passing off as smoothly as possible. There was a very plentiful supply of refreshments of a very dainty nature, and the arrangements were so complete that the supper had been completed by midnight. The use of the Horticultural Hall had been obtained and this was used for dancing ihy the overflow thereby saving some of the crush in the main hall. Splendid music was supplied by 'Boss Orchestra while extras were played by the Black Hand Jazz Orchestra. Messrs J. J. Breeze. C. Bleach, J. Goulson and H. Davidson had charge of the floor and the long programme was run off smartly, dancing continuing until after two o’clock. Altogether the ball proved a distinct success, the whole of tho arrangements being very complete. The Town Hall was used for the supper, and the alleyway was well enclosed with a. calico covering. The grand march was a very attractive one, there being many fancy costumes. The awards of the judges were as follows: Alost original fancy dress lady was won by Aliss Alariory Hewer (Tennis) ; gentleman, Ah - J. N. Robinson (Hans the Boatman). Best dressed lady, Aliss Dolly Leslie (Jazz Pierette) ; gentleman, ALII. R. Alottram (Rajah).
