CHINESE TROUBLE.
(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association. CHINESE WARFARE. NEW YORK,, Aug. 18. The Now York Times Washington correspondent states that the State Department lias advised various missionary organisations in the United States that it is highly inadvisable for Americans to return at this time to the interior of China, without first consulting the American officials stationed in their particular districts. Six more amphibian planes have been shipped to Chinn for use by the marines stationed there, particularly at Tientsin ,increasing the Air Force to twenty-one 111 a chi nos. Reports received by the State Department indicates that another period of chaos in China is impending. TENSE SITUATION . HONGKONG, Aug. 19. A grave situation lias again arisen in Nanking owing to the rapid advnee of fhe Northerners. A naval wireless indicates that all Europeans hno been ordered to stand ready for evacuation aboard British warships. Tt is reported an ultimatum was received from the Northerners demanding the immediate surrender of Nanking otherwise the city will he shelled. Later advice states shelling has commenced. His Majesty's “Wivern” was hit several times without casualties. Meanwhile the situation is most tense.
