DUNEDIN. June 10. Douglas Charles Hope "ell, described as a Canadian, was charged at the Police Court on several charges of obtaining money by valueless cheques. It was stated that accused was an officer in the Canadian flying mips, having been shot down into the German lines, and since had been a drug addict, and his parents, his father being a judge in the Supreme Court, sent him to New Zealand. He had visited many towns in the Dominion, cashing valueless cheques. Recently he was ordered reformative detention at Invercargill. The magistrate ordered accused to be detained for two years, and suggested that the Prison Board should have him returned to Canada.
