CHINESE FEUDS. (Received this dav at 9.H0 a.m.) NEW YORK, -March 24
Two years peace between Chinese tongs ended at mid-night, within an hour after which the ancient hatreds were in flames in. cities throughout the United States. Tong gunmen killed five and wounded three. Following were the casualties—Brooklyn, two dead, Newark, one dead, Chicago, one dead, .Manchester," one dead, Cloveland, one ■wounded, Pittsburg, two wounded. A peace treaty was signed at Washington and peace was honourably kept until it expired. The National headquarters of On Leung and (flip Sings at New York are closely guarded by police. The leader ol Chicago On Leungs asked for special police protection against the Hip Sings, declaring they had planned to invade the Chinese district.
SPEED RECORDS. WASHINGTON, March 24
At Dayton Reach. Florida, Major Scagravo, driving a thousand horsepower car, set a new unofficial American speed record for a mile- at 160} miles an hour. The previous unofficial record is 15(1 miles. I his was made in 1924 by Tommy Milton. Scagravo was clocked and his speed recorded, but the judges refused to allow the maik to stand officially, because ot a difficulty with the timing records. Seagrave will continue efforts to establish records. CRUISERS FOR SHANGHAI. WASHINGTON. March 24. The cruisers Cinrinatti. Richmond and Marblehead at present at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, have been ordeiod to Shanghai. U.S. ADMIRAL’S POWER. WASHINGTON. March 24. Secretary Wilbur announced to-day that Admiral Williams has full authority to use all United States’ naval forces in Chain “ at liis discretion for the protection of Americans and their property.”
