At Dayton Reach. Florida, Major Scagravo, driving a thousand horsepower car, set a new unofficial American speed record for a mile- at 160} miles an hour. The previous unofficial record is 15(1 miles. I his was made in 1924 by Tommy Milton. Scagravo was clocked and his speed recorded, but the judges refused to allow the maik to stand officially, because ot a difficulty with the timing records.
