HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL

FRIDAY, AUGUST 27. The Cbuncil met at 7.30 p.m. Present—Alessrs G. A. Perry (.Mayor), J. King, H. M. Coulson, A. R. Elcock, F. Orr, AY. Jeffries. Apologies were made for Alessrs Blank, Heinz and Parry. Leave of absence was granted to the two former for one month. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Westland Hospital Board, notifying tag on last balance sheet, in reference to interest not being charged on levies overdue, and stating that interest will be charged in future if levies arc not paid cn due date.—Received. From Minister* of Internal Affair.*®* Wellington, in reference to Town ning Bill, and stating the action taken in connection therewith.—Received. From same in reference to investment of reserve funds of local bodies. —Received. REPORTS. From Treasurer reporting receipts 11s. payments £167 7s lOd, debit - balance £4OB 8s 4d, loan account credit balance £47 15s Id.—Received. TR EASURER’S ESTIMATES. The Treasurer submitted a statement t showing the rates required to be struck for the ensuing year totalling Is 3d in the C, an increase of one penny, the latter being due to the increased amount of the Hospital Board levy.— Received.

Air Coulson moved that the Estimates he approved and confirmed. Though there was an increase of Id in the pound it was due to the increased amount that had to he paid to tho AVesthmd Hospital Board. Seconded by Air King and carried. No tenders were received for cutting down trees on Cass Square. It was resolved that alternate tenders be invited for the cutting down and removal of the timber, or for cutting down only. The meeting terminated at 7.50 p.m.
