(nv tkli'op.aph—run chess association WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. THE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Town Planning Bill and New Zealand University Amendment Bill were read a second time pro forma and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. Local Government Loans Board Bill was read a second time. Public Revenues Bill was put through the final stages and passed. The Council rose at 4.30 p.m. THE HOUSE. Tho House met at 2.30. The afternoon sitting was taken up ■with a discussion on tho report of Industries and Commerce. On the petition praying for greater protection to the sawmilling industry tho Committee recommended that Customs duties he placed on certain imported timbers not now paying duty, the public to be protected by a reduction of the tariff if the prices charged by millers exceeded those charged in November, 1925. The report was referred to the Government for favourable consideration. At the evening sitting Veterinary Surgeons Bill, Lights on. Vehicles Amendment Bill. Land Loans Amendment Bill, Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill, were put through the final stages and passed. Tho House rose at 1.20 n.m. till 2.30 p.m.
