Patu.iamkxt is hastening to a close. It would appear by the middle of next week at the latest the curtain will he rung; down. And, so little done, so much to do! The session opened a little earlier than usual, hut the leisurely procedure of Parliamentary work has been observed and though much has been said, but little lias been done. The session is closing early on account of Mr Coates’ early departure. This suggests again a one man Ministry. But with the Government majrity to secure, it would not he asking too much for the House to he left to finish the business it should have) disposed of. It would appear that in reality the Government has not its legislation ready. It is still baiting between two minds on different subjects, which suggests that there are immediate perils to an umvieldly majority, as to a narrow one. The Government members do not appear to he in as close agreement on various matters, ns they should he. They are agreed in supporting Mr Coates, but if he. be absent and the party leaderloss, the security of the majority seems to he doubtful. It is a peculiar position that once again the Government of the country is dependent on the presence of a single individual. The situation does not make for the general welfare of the country. It ivill evidently he next session before force of circumstances will settle Parliament down to steady legislative duty.
