[ by telegraph—run press association THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, July 21. The. Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. Two days leave of absence was granted Hon Fleming on account of urgent public business, and one week'to Hon. Clark on account of illness. k The Census and Statistics Bill; Oil in Territorial Waters Bill; Evidence Amendment Bill : Destitute Persons Amendment Bill; and the Death Duties Amendment Bill, were introduced from the House, and each read a first time. On the motion of Hon. Barr the Summer Time Bill was read the second time pro forma, and referred to the Committee of -.Selection in order that evidence may be taken.

Captive Birds Shooting Prohibition Bill was put through the final stages and passed without amendment. The Council .adjourned at 2.42 p.m. until to-morrow. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Hon Anderson gave notice ol bis intention to introduce the Bent Bestrieiion . Bill.

The following Bills were introduced and read for the first time. Guardian of Infants, (Hon. Rnlleston) ; Cemeteries Amendment Bill, (Hon. A oung); Dairy Industry Amendment, (Hon. TTawken).

Ifon. Hawkeii announced that the Government had decided to acquire Batchelor's property of 880 acres near Palmerston North as the site for the Agricultural College for flic North Island.

The remainder of the afternoon session was taken up with formal busi-

ness. , At the evening sitting the Werners Compensation Amendment Bill was.introduced by Hon. Howard (Christchurch South) and was read for the second time and referred to the Labour Bills Committee. Employed Workers Bill introduced by Hon. Fraser (Wellington Central) was read a second time and referred to the Labour Bills Committee. The ' House 1 rose at 12.22 p.m. till 2.30 p.m.
