A COLLIERY DISASTER
LONDON. Dee. 19. An explosion in Birchenwood colliery. Kid-sgrove. Staffordshire, occurred when the afternoon shift still were below ground. A fire followed the explosion. Rescuers rushed to the scene and worked all night. They saved all the miners except seven men. the body of one of whom was brought up this morning. The rescue efforts were later abandoned owing to a- rapid spread of fire.
