Canterbury Education Board to-iiny decided to award a special prize to Margaret Evans, of Christchurch Fast School, who has not missed a single attendance for eight years.

IS Francis Arthur Bate was convicted in the Magistrate's Court on two charges of a breach ot the Legislature Act. in that he had witnessed signatures ef an application for enrolment without seeing the applicant sign or liearing the person declare that tho signature was his own. The evidence disclosed that a wife had signed her husband's name to an application and that another woman had signed her mother’s name in her mother's absence, to a form. Both of these irregular signatures Bate had witnessed. He was fined £lO on each charge.
\ THEFT. CHRISTCHURCH, Hoc. 18. Tobacco, cigarettes, pipes, hair clippers, razors and other goods, valued at over £7O, were stolen from E. l’mthero’s tobacconist shop in Cashel Street some time during Thursday night. Most of Prothoro’s Christmas stock, which ho just opened, was filched. In addition to this his haireutters and razors were all taken, and to carry on his Inismess this morning, he hsul to g<» and purchase sets ol new ones.
WELLINGTON THEFT CASES. WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. The following prisoners were sentenced at the Supreme Court to-day. Rupert Geo. Bell. a. youth sent to Borstal Institute, Invercargill. lor a period not. exceeding four yeais on four charges of 'false pretences aim theft. John Henry Mall, thett <1 horse and bridle. 12 months' hard labour. Clifford Joseph Moore 1montlis’ imprisonment with haul labour on seven charges of torpery and one charge of false pretences.
A SHOCKING CASE. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec., 18. In the case in which Kvn Rolton. hotel-keeper, claimed from Win. Milner of Sockbiirn. contractor, £ISOO damages for two assaults, alleged to have been made on her by the defendant, the jurv found for the defendant and judgment was entered accordingly. The evidence was of such a shocking nature that Mr Justice Adams ordered that it ho not published. WELLINGTON MEAT WORKS. i SOLD TO BORTII WICKS. WELLINGTON, Deeemiier 19. It is estimated that it the sale is consummated the shareholders will receive about 8s in the £.
