WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

MONDAY, JULY 13th. The Board mot at 8.10 p.ni. Present—Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. 11. Blank, G. Davidson, L. 'H. Morel, R. Meharry, E. A. Wells, T. \Y. Duff, A. B. Spiers, and W. Jeffries. T!ie minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. DEPUTATION. Mr A. R. Eleock waited on the Board in connection with a request by Messrs Krakosky and Boyle for a transfer of lease of Old People’s Home reserve at Mananui to Mr J. Searlo. lie urged the Board to reconsider their former decision not to approve of the transfer. The Chairman said that the position was that Messrs Krakosky and Boyle had a lease, and as they were aware the present lessors had sold all tne timber on it which had been cut and they bad got some £7<X>, while the Board had only got some £3OO. Bo was of opinion that it would be better for the present lessors to keep in possession. Mr Eleock said the proposed transferee was a hard-working man. In any event if the transfer were granted, the present lessors would be still liable for the rent if the new lessor failed to meet his obligations. After discussion in which Messrs Morel, Jeffries and Duff' took part, Mr Wells moved that the previous resolution refusing the request bo rescinded. Seconded by Mr Morel and carried. Mr Wells then moved that the transfer be granted subject to Messrs Boyle and Krakosky entering into a suitable bond, in connection with the payment of rent. Seconded by Mr Morel and carried. Fisher, thanking Board for testimonial. Received. Mr Spiers moved that leave be granted for Dr. Booth I i terminate her duties subject to her arranging for her successor, now in Kumnra, to carry on on her behalf. - Seconded by Mr Wells and earned. Holliday offering her nursing home to the Board as n. going concern as she desired to discontinue o]K*ralions. -Received. Mr Blank said the Board would have to take .seme action, Mr Duff said it was a difficult question for the Board to consider in view of the financial arrangements of the Board for the ensuing year. He moved that consideration be referred to a committee consisting of tbe town members and Dr. Baird to report at next meeting. Seconded by Mr-Jeffries who said, sooner or later it would be th“ duty of the Board to secure a maternity home or build a borne under the lines laid down by the Department. Supported by Mr Wells, who suggested that application be made to the Department for a grant ot a ■-substantial amount. .Mr Davidson said he did not think that the Board could have a home other than at tbe hospital.
