At Prestwick the. open golf championship proper of seventy-two holes, thirty-six of which are to bp played to-day and the same to-morrow, opened in glorious weather. There tire eighty-three competitors. Kirkwood did a morning round in eighty-three. His long shots wore wild and his putting erratic. He had fontsi xes. Leaders at the end of the morning round wer: Barnes (Now York) seventy. a record for the course; Wingate, Temple, Newson, Taylor, Afield, Surrey, 74. Kirkwood did tlio second hole in 71 • i LONDON, June 26. Kirkwood’s aggregate is 320. At present the leader is Barnes with 300.
