THE BIG FAIR.

NEXT FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. Next Friday at the Soldiers’ Hall there will be a busy afternoon and evening in connection with the Big Fair promoted to raise funds for tho Beautifying Society. The opening display will take place at. 2.30 o’clock, when the sale of goods will commence. There will he a great varietv ol goods including gifts and novelties as well as many domestic necessities useful in every house. A pleasing entertainment will he offered during the afternoon for which the admissicn will lie one shilling, there will he a juvenile elocutionary competition divided into 3 sections, under 0 years, under 12 years, and under 15 years. The juveniles may select their own piece, and recalls will he heard in tho evening. There will he also a Highland fling competition, divided into two sections, ten years, and over ten years. In this competition the recalls will bo taken at night also.

Both competitions premise to be well supported, several country entrants l>eing expected, and the entertainment should he useful and pleasing. There will he also a display of cut blooms, pot plants and fancy work, together with a homo-cooking competition open to town and country residents All cooking exhibits are to he sold for the benefit of the fund. In tlio evening there will l:e a vocal and instrumental concert and at thee close of the recall competitions dancing will lie indulged in. During the afternoon tea will lie served in the annexe, whore Isa supper with he obtainable at 'night. The whole function should prove a. useful purpose in raising funds tor a worthy object, while patrons will obtain full value in gifts purchased and entertainment enjoyed tor the out!a\. The Beautifying Society well deserves liberal patronage, and there is good promise of that being forthcoming .
