HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE
ANNUAL MEETING
TUESDAY, MAY 7th
The annual meeting of members of the Brigade was hold in the rooms at the Town Hall at 8 p.m. Present—‘Superintendent Braddon (Chair), and 20 members. The minutes of last annual meeting were rend and confirmed and outward correspondence approveir. From Mrs J-’. Preston forwarding cheque for £0 os in recognition of services in quelling the fire at her premises recently.—Received: the Secretary to fittingly acknowledge the same. . I-'rom George Davidson. Deputy Su- | eriutendent tendering his resignation as a member of the Brigade after 33 years of service, and expressing his regret at the necessity to sever the very 1 leasaiit relations that had always existed among members. —Received, 'the Chairman said ho hail received the resignation with very great regret indeed. His services had been of special value to the Brigade in many ways and they would miss him at tlic-ir meetings where he had always been a very popular figure. Fcrcmnii Mclntosh moved that a letter he written asking the Deputy to reconsider his decision to retire. Seconded hy Foreman McGregor and carried on the voices. BALANCE .SHEET.
The Treasurer reported the receipts for the year had amounted to £43 Sis 3d. and the expenditure to £1!) 9s Bd. leaving a debit balance of £(i. Received. Engineer Mclntosh donated £2 2s towards the deficiency. The inport on the finances in connection with the demonstration held on Cass Square showed the receipts to he £.->7 12s 01. leaving a iredit balance of :013 IDs 3d.—Received. A vote of appreciation was passed to l-oretnaii Williams for his services in connection with the -demonstration. SFI’ KRI NT I-. NI) EN TS REPORT. it is my pleasant duty to record another year of suceesslul effort hy this Brigade, when 1 look hack and see the amount of time so clicoi fully given by the momhei's of this Brigade, and tho amount of work, sometimes under unpleasant conditions, so willingly mi-d'-rtakeli by you. without a thought of rewanl. for the safety of our townsmen's lives and property, it gives me great pleasure to say that the sin of selfishness cannot he laid at your doors. The lire calls for the year were, for-
tunately, only live, a fact which speaks well for the carefulness of our people. A most gratifying feature in connection with these outbreaks is oar receipt of letters of thanks and appreciation from the owners of houses in which outbreaks have occurred. The fort nightly practices have been very well attended and all Fire (alls were exceedingly well responded to, and the high standard of efficiency reached hy you, has been well maintained. Daring the year a West Const Demonstration was held on C’ss Squate
and passed elf very well, and although the team that represented ns. were not successful in as far as winning the
aggregate trophies, they occupied a very Inmoiable position, and I have high hopes for their I lit lire success, when the young memhc's. of which the tom is principally cotnposcil. will have gained more expeii-.-me in lompetiiion work.
