WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.
TUESDAY, JUNE 21st
The monthly meeting of the League was held at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock. Present: Messrs 11. Wiki (Chairman) W. Jeffries, T. AY . Bruce, D. J. Evans, A. G. Bilkington. An apology was pi ado tor the absenc e of Mr J. Ritchie. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Rural Education Committee, Canterbury, stating the holding of th e farmers’ winter school at Lincoln College had been postponed this season; but arrangements were being made to hold a fanners’ session at Darfield when lectures would be held on various farms.—Received and copy to lie sent to the Westland A. and P. Association for suggestions. From Resident Engineer replying > that the scouring out of the Waitaha I ford was being attended to by the surfaceman. —Received with thanks. From Dr Little, Blackball, regretting he was not able at this juncture to visit Hokitika and give a lecture on geology, as ho was holding classes for the next four months at Roa. —Received and regret expressed at not being
able to visit Hokitika. From Westland County Council stating the construction of McArthur Road, Koitcrangi, would be taken up as soon as the grants were available.— Received. GENERAL. On the suggestion of Mr Jeffries, it was resolved to write the Resident Engineer again urging the work of erecting the Tatare bridge be proceeded with more expeditiously. It was stated ear traffic was being held up at the ford and there was much inconvenience to the travelling public.
It was resolved to fix the subscription for the year at 10s per annum, and to secure a larger membership.
The election of officers was deferred to a meeting to be held at the Town Hall on Wednesday, July 6th at 7.30 o’clock and invite the members of all local bodies and the general public to attend. .
Tt was decided to invite members to prepare papers on subjects affecting the 'progress and development of Westland, to be read at the annual meeting-
An account for €lO was passed for payment.
Mr T. W. Bruce was appointed hon auditor.
It was resolved to apply to the local bodies, dairy companies etc. for the annual contributions now due.
