AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE STEWARDS’ STRIKE. SYDNEY, Dee 25. The Transport AVorkers’ Federation has recommended the stewards to return lo tho ships as soon, ns possible on tho best terms that are obtainable from tho owners, being of the opinion that it would be inadvisable to prolong the strike while there aro innumerable unemployed in tho Commonwealth. The stewards have decided to defer a proposal for a meeting to consider a resumpton of work until after the holidays. The impression being that they are anxious to spend the Christinas ashore.
The owners are adamant in their detrend nation not to negotiate with the men beforo there is a resumption of work.
A SYDNEY TRAGEDY. SYSNEY, Dec. 25.
A woman who recently arrived in New South AA/ilbs, and had been living at North Sydney has been murdered. Slip is supposed to he Miss Gertie McGrath, of Napier. Her body lias been found strangled. She has also a Wound on the back of her head. The police ire searching for a certain man who is suspected of the crime.
