It is notified in the Grr.ette that ohieken pox is declared to be an infectious disease within the meaning- of the Public. Health Act. The appointments of Mr W. R. Morris as Public Service Commissioner and Mr- P. V. Frazer as Assistant Commissioner are gazetted. Mr John Menzies lias been elected unopposed as Mayor of Wsetport, following the resignation of the position bv Mr A. Leaver.
The report of Dr Black-more, medical director of tuberculosis institutions under the control of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board shows thafj on March 3:lst, 1919, thoie were 75. patients in the Sanatorium and 68- were admitted during the year. There were 75 patients discharged and four died. Sixty-two eases wore discharged as ‘'disease arrested.” Of the 91 patients treated at the Coronation Hospital during the year, 26 wcip discharged, three transferred to the Sanatorium, and 15 died, leaving 47 remaining under treatment. Twelve new beds have been provided for women at the Sanatorium, There are now 98 beds at the Sanatorium .and 56. at the Coronation Hospital.
