MAT DAY CELEBRATIONS.

There were particularly good humoured demonstrations in England. An unofficial holiday was observed generally in some industrial areas, and half heartcdly ip others. Everywhere vital services with the exception of London dockyards were not affected. The chief feature of London's celebrations consisted of a Mammoth procession, admjra.blv marshalled by tire police, and followed hy open air meetings in Hyde Park, wliere there were seventy two platforms, from which resolutions extending fraternal greetings to colleagues all over the world and demanding housing reform, an amnesty to political and military prisoners; endowment of motherhood etc, were carried. No prominent- Labour lenders participated.

The May Day strikers in place de la Republiq ue were intended to interfere with motor busses. Disorder ensued and some shots were fired, but no, casmuties were reported. Twenty were arrested. IN GERMANY. BERLIN, May 1. Despite the National Assembly’s I>position, May Day celebrations wore Mel, the factories, offices and shops being closed.
