The death of Captain Black of Wellington took place yesterday. The deceased was trading to the West Coast for* many years in the .Blackball Company’s steamers.

A considerable'- amount of damage was dono to the electrical system and telegraph indicators on board H.M 8. Renown, by visitors who inspected the vessel at Auckland. It is thought the damage was done by children vho thoughtlessly mishandled the machinery. Several miniature searchlights were stolen from the model of the Renown, which was on exhibition.

We regret to record the death at the Westland Hospital last night of Mr Henry McArtnoy, the well known figure in dredging circles in this district. Deceased was not in the best of health of late, lie having been an inmate of the Westland Hospital some time ago. He was about town yesterday, and only returned to the hospital last evening. Death was due to 1 heart failure. Deceased was born in Nelson, and was 70 years of age. He was well-known in the Blenheim and Nelson districts where his family reside. His death will come as a shock to his many friends in this district. He loaves a widow and family of six.

At the Magistrates’ Court to-day before Messrs Evans and Jeffries Justices, J. Cameron and R.. Williams were charged by the Police with a breach of the peace on the railway station y letford on Thursday evening. Sergt. -McCarthy conducted the case for the police. Williams who pleaded guilty v. as fined £2 and 9/- costs. The charge against Cameron, not being the agg; - 3ssor was dismissed. It appears an altercation arose over a horse, resulting in some blows being struck.

The Annual Meeting of Parishioners of All Saints Church was held on

Thursday evening. There was a fair attendance. The Balance Sheet for the year ending March 31st. 1920 was presented by the Secretary, Mr J. B. Ward. The chairman (The Rev. .Or. Holloway) favourably commented upon the fact that between £SO and £6O had heea.raised by special collections dming the year for foreign missionary and other outside objects. A special vote of 1 thanks was accorded to the Secretary for the careful way in which the accounts were kept. Besides the ordinary Sunday collections and the subscriptions, the church members have raised during the year well over £SOO in cash towards the new Memorial Church, and the promises are steadily t being paid in The ordinary current church account however shows a debit balance. Last year’s members of the Committee were re-elected for another year. In his report the Vicar spoke of the work of the Girl’s Hostel and the various Sunday Schools and Classes, the new Church, All Saints Institute and the Boys Scouts, and the various other departments of palish work, and voiced the thanks of the congregation to all workers. Tlio ladies then handed round n cup of coffee, and the meeting tn minuted.
