“THE SOUL OF BUDDHA.” FRIDAY.
Admirers of Theda Bara, the William Pox star, will see this portrayer of vampire roles in “The Soul of Buddha,” which was written by Miss Bara herself at the Princess Theatre on Good Friday night. “The Soul of Buddha” tells of a beautiful half-caste Japanese girl who becomes a novitiate in the Temple if Buddha ns a dancing girl. The High Priest loves her, but is spurned by Bavahari (Theda Bara). Escaping from the temple she elopes with an English Army Officer who marries her. The (High Priest vow’s vengeance. Wliereever the couple go they are confronted with the Hindu death sign. To escape the vengeance of the fanatics the couple leave for France.
Then Bavahari leaves her husband and prepares to go on the stage with a dancing act copied after the sacred dance she did in the temple. The High Priest learning of her whereabouts follows her to Paris.. He is engaged ns a Buddhist idol to decorate the scene and as his former dancing girl appears for the dance he jumps from his pedestal and before the horrified audience carries out his threat of death. The picture is full of dramatic intensity and is a. faithful reproduction of the mysteries of the Far East.
