GERMANS ESCAPE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. The High Commissioner reports from lain don, ISth August, at 12.50 p.m., 1 The Admiralty report our light forces, while scouting in the German Right on Thursday morning, sighted an enemy destroyer. We chased and repeatedly hit and nfired her, but she escaped over a mine-field. Afterwards enemy mine-sweepers were sighted and two were severely damaged but also escaped. I An enemy submarine attacked us twice unsuccessfully and our vessels emerged undamaged.
