Austrian -official.—We broke massed attacks lasting the morning and: afternoon south-west of Yborc. The Russians employing 19 divisions, and fifteen waves on a front of sixteen kilometres, wore compelled to retreat under our machine guns and our chasing aeroplanes. The artillery . also broke the Russian cavalry brought up in readiness for pursuit. The losses of the Russians were heavy.

There is uneasiness for the fat® °i fifty fishing boats that have not returned from the North Sea. Five are officially reported sunk. A German submarine captain declared lie sank about twenty. The Superintendnt of Fisheries states the fishing was carried on outside of Germany’s blockade zone; therefore the sinking is unjustifiable.

POPE’S REFUSAL

It is reported that Germany has asked the Pope to recall Cardinal Mercier from Belgium. The reqvest was emphatically refused.

If Germany insists relations will become strained.
