PLAYER-WRITER RULING
tt OAS&a-PBXBB ASSOCIATION—COPYHUJHI NEW YORK, June 2. According to a telegram from Boston Mr. Wightman (president of the United States Lawn Tennis Association) has addressed a letter to members of the clubs of the association asking them to oonsider well before taking action in connection with the question of the player-writer ruling. The letter states that if the amateur players are permitted to make tennis their business and livelihood thereof, either as a player or a writer or in any other way, there is bound to develop a small group, perhaps ten or twenty players, who will soon be invincible on tennis courts.
He adds: "Shall we give every amateur player an equal and fair opportunity to win our championship tournaments, o? must we favour a few semiprofessionals by lowering the amateur standing to enable them to compete and win and keep on winning." The letter indicates that the association will make a strenuous effort to combat the attempt to organise a rival amateur tennis organisation.
