The annual report stated:—F.'.nanci- [ ally, this year has been th© best Siuce tixe i'atea Branch was formed, but considering the stiong committee we have, and the interest taken in tho '.york by the residents of the district in general, it is somewnat disappointing that more mothers do not take advantage of the nurse's visits to Palea. Uoivei-er, we are always hoping that n,utters v-'ill improve in this direction. During the year we have held severaL successful tunctiona, two dances during the \vm- ; ter months, and a most sucoessf ul j | "street day" in November^ and we | heati'tiLy tnank all those who assisted in making these efforts such a success. iPunng October, Mrs Goodson brought a spiendid concert party trom Hawera, the proceeds of the evening being given to tne Patea Branch. JNeedless to say, ! our committee feel most grateful to Mrs Goodson for her kindness. We have bean very sorry to lose, through removal from the district, two very I valued members of our committee during they year, namely, Mr. and Mrs Strouts, who have always taken a great interest in the w rork of the Society. IMr Strouts' valuable advice has at all ; times been most appreciated by the committee-. After discussing the matter, and acting on the advice of Miss Patrick, it was decided to join up with the Wanganui Branch, and arrangements, have now been made with Nurse Wilson, of Wanganui, to visit Patea | every Friday. We are exceedingly sorry ; to lose the services of Nurse Dix, who (has visited us for many years, but we i feel sure that the members of the com- | mittee will do all in their power to assist Nurse Wilson in her work amongst us. In conclusion, we wish to thank all those who have worked so earnesly for the advancement of the Plunket Society in Patea."

The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

[ The election of officers resulted as fol--1 lows:—President, Mrs W. F. Sheiid; vice-presidents, Mesdames Grainger, Lawson, Moss, and Roberts; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs A. M. Mcßae; I committee, Mesdames C. Carey, D. |Fraser, D. Roots, Sempie, R. W. Hamerton. Holtham, Whiteford, R. Hunger, D. Jones, L. McDonald, Fiiilay, Ramsbottom, Finlayson, Butler, Tate, P. H. Sheiid. J On the motion of the chairman, it . was unanimously resolved that the ■ society place on record its warm appreciation of the valuable services ren- '■ dered to the society by Mrs Stephenson and Mrs Mcßae. I Mr Goertz, on being asked to speak, outlined the work of the society in a brief and interesting address, and es- ! pressed the regret felt by one and all at the forthcoming departure of Mrs Stephenson from the district. Mrs s Stephenson, he said, had not only ■ founded the society in Patea, but had actually carried out the duties of Plun- , ket nurse when the latter was not able :to visit the district. On behalf of her \ friends in the society, he asked her to j accept from them a slight token of j their affection. The gathering then rose : and sang "For She's a Jolly Good-Fel-i low," which was followed by hearty cheers.

Mrs Stephenson, in a brief and feeling speech, thanked the speakers for their kind remarks, and the members for their handsome gift. A great deal of the credit for the founding of the society in Patea, she said, was due to Mrs Grainger, who had worked, most assiduously in the society's behalf, and had helped to keep it on its feet.

During the afternoon a brief concert programme was rendered, the following taking part: Miss A. Homer, Mesdames Moss and Stenhenson.

At the conclusion of the proceedings a demonstration in Plunket. Society work was given by Nurse Adams, of Wanganui.—Patea Press.
