LOWGARTH.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
When ia the weather going to take a pull? ii the general topic at present. During the past four or five weeks it has been very severe indeed, and in consequence the flush of autumn grass has disappeared quicker than it came. The local factory is running alternate days, an-1 the milk supply is going down rapidly. Most of the cows are on once a day milking, and very shortly the season will be at an end. Winter feeding will shortly be fed out, and fortunately most farmers are pretty well supplied in that respect. The new factory which is in course of erection is proceeding very satisfactorily, though the long spell of broken weather has caused a fair amount of lost time. Nevertheless it should not be long now before we will see the walls finished and the roof on.
The dances which have been held fortnightly in aid of the hall funds have proved fairly successful, although the local people could turn out a lot better. Enthusiasm ran high while the hall was being built, and it is to be hoped that the same keenness will be maintained by rallying round thp committee until the hall is paid for. The novel idea of each settler rearuig a calf for the Hall Society proved to be of great assistance from the.financial point of view. All the calves (some thirty, I believe) were mustered together and submitted for sale. The young stock thus reared were a credit to the donors and realised the satisfactory price of £2 per head, thus augnienting the funds of the society very considerably. I am pleased to report that Mr P. Christensen, who has been under a very critical operation in the Stratford Hospital, has returned to his home, and I understand is progressing favour- i ably.
