He announced the union was presenting Mr. Towttend, the principal guest, with a portrait in oils in cornmemo ration of his seventy-one years' .newspaper work. 'He added that English newspapers would improve the ser~vice with the- Dominions if the cable companies, instead of conserving their surpluses, reduced cable costs. - If competitive wireless vwas available the ■service would be better still. Mr Devison, Sir George Fen wick and a cost of London editors were present ■Sydney Sun Cables.
