WEDDING

BIRTWISTLE—LAWSON

On Thursday, April 24, a pretty wedding took place at St. Mark's Church, Kaponga, when Miss sarah Ellen Lawson, second daugnter of Mrs. JVI E. Lawson, oi Aetrington, Lancashire, England (now of Awauna), was married to Mr. Henry Birtwistle, second son of Mr. and Mrs. U. A. Birtwistle, of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, England. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. W. Solomon. Friends of the bride had the church prettily decorated for the occasion. "The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. Robert Alty. of Awatuna_, wore a neat fawn gabardine costume, with hat to match. The bridesmaid was Miss Freda Korte, who was attired in a fawn gabardine costume. ■ The bride and bridesmaid carried pretty shower bouquets. Mr. Henry Korte acted as best man. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Alty, Awatuna. The esteem held for the happy couple was shown by the numerous tokens and presents received by them. In the evening the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Birtwistle gathered together in the Awatuna hall, where a most enjoyable evening was spent. Dance music was suplied by the members of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Orchestra. Mr. W. W. Lonsdaie, as chairman, conveyed to the happy couple the best wishes for long life and prosperity, on behalf of their many firends. Numerous songs, recitations, and a comio sketch were interspersed among dances, the whole being efficiently tabulated by Mr. P. Nichoi, as M.C. Shortly after supper the health of Mr. and Mrs. Birtwistle was honoured, followed by the singing of "For They are JOII7 Good Fellows." Mr. Birtwistle suitably replied. The gathering dispersed after sinking "Mild Lang Syne." At the wedding breakfast in the afternoon the us'ial toasts were honoured, including a toast to the many relatives of the bride and brideeroom residing overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Birtwistle intend establish in or their home in Awatuna for the present.
