BOXING.

FATAL BOUT.

BY CABLE—PSEBS ASSOCIATION-COPYEIGHT

SYDNEY, May 6. George Mendies succumbed to injuries received during a fight with Harry Gordon.

[At the Stadium on Saturday evening Gordon knocked out Meadies in the fifteenth round after a thrilling, even contest. Mendies was sent to hospital suffering from a broken nose and concussion.]

The Hawera Boxing Association should have a bumper house on Thursday evening for the meeting of the Wellington und Taranaki champions. Great improvements have been made at the Winter Show Buildings, tending towards the comfort of. patrons, and at the same time providing for a greater number of spectators. A splendid programme is being offered, and as some of the visitors are New Zealand champions, class is well represented. The "bouts between MrCarrol, the New Zealand champion, and Scotty Anderson (bantams), Napier and Bushy {feathers), and Stewart and Cadman (light-weights), especially should evoke the greatest of interest. Local enthusiasts will see also the loral favourite, A. Buggan, up against a good man in W. Brown. The local association is deserving of all the support that can be given, as *t has gone to great expense in putting on the above events.
