To enable new breeders to follow my method of establishing a Jersey herd I will give the names and a short history of each sire used in the herd and their connection with the outstanding Jerseys of the Dominion. I bought Moonlighter an inbred Cicero bull, in 1894, at auction, giving top price for bulls, from Mr F. L. Wright, although he was only a~ two-month-old calf. His dam, Moonshine, is a full sister to Moonbeam, the dam of Jersey Boy, the sire of Grannie s Girl, the dam of Grannie's Knight Moonshine was champion at Auckland Show twice, Waikato Show once, and Pukekohe Show twice. She traces back to imported Favourite, a cow that all the N.Z. champions for type or butterfat can claim as one of their ancestors Moonlighter was the sire of Lady Flora's Olive, who for three years running, at a week's test in November made 33, 30, 331b. butter-fat.
