NOTES OK FLEET MEETING

(By Telegraph from Maecenas.) WELLINGTON, April 26. The weather broke for the fleet meeting, ram falling overnight and a threatening morning developing into a wet day. With an unsatisfactory railway service from Wellington to Trentham there was only a limited attendance and the fields and betting were very limited. ° Racing opened with the Navy League Welter, and in a good betting raoe Entre Nous finished up a £50 better favourite than Asleep, with Glimpse and Spoony also well supported. When the tapes rose Tinohari jumped to the front, and led Bonny Marion, Glimpse and Asleep into the straight; Onoe in a line for home Entre Nous came fast to beat Peach Brandy and Glimpse. Good Mark was fourth. . Anxious Moments was favourite for the Repulse Hurdles, but Captain Sarto and Militaire came in for good support. When the field waa despatched Anxious Moments * rushed to the lead, and opening up a big lead won under a pull from Captain Sarto, whioh jumped badly at a couple of fences. MiMfeaire just beat Parorangi for third position. Pool's Paradise was entrusted with £1650 in the Hood Handicap, while Star Shell, which was an easy vseoond favourite, only carried £&50. Wlien the positions could be picked on the long straight, it was found that Flea.sant> Surprise, Fool's Paradise and Shell were the leading trio. Over the last couple of furlongs the favourite drew out to win easily from Kilmor. who finished well to beat La Reve and Pleasant Surprise. Only five horses were saddled up Tor th© Admiral's Cup, and of them Merry Hay claimed most supporters, and was a two to one "on" favourite, but shegave her body of supporters a very I bad run. toiling { n the rear throusch- I out. Aeriform led Atapo and Printemps over the early stages, but turning for home Scion moved up, and, ridden out, he he*,t that very moderate pair. Aeriform and Atano, which.fought out a good battle for the places. Star Ranger counted on a few more supporters than Radiac for the Chatham Handicap, while Stream and Asleep also came in for p"M>d support. When the barrier rose, Otaura went to the le*d and opened up a. pood le«d on Star Ranker and En Pout?, with the. others strung out. Ot».ura continued to lead till weM down the straight, where En Route Averted himself to win nicely from oLn,ura.0 Ln,ura. which was lucky to beat the fast finishing R^iac. First Line, Dick. Highway and SH«sr Camp were supported as written for the steepleoha.se. This «>vent was most unsathfactpry. as Slins Camn baulked at the seoond iump, at which obstacle McSweenev fell off Highway Carawock led for the first mile, but ran off at the stand "double." and for the remainder of the race Dick and First T-yie had a dnA. Dirk waited on *inst Line till the last fence and then drew out to win easily. Only four horses were sent out to battle for the Adelaide Handica.n. and when the machine closed Lady Finders (£1225) was a better favourite than Quest (£1150). When the barrier m^e Lady Fingers began quickly and led Quest b\ two lengths on to the course proper. In the run to the post a good race took place, Last Crust just beating Lady Fingers. Quest wa.s a close third. . .The racing concluded with the Officers' Handicap, and when the betting concluded Piquant was first choice wi+h the bettino; public, carrying £1.500 aiainst £500 for Lady Gay, the s^ond favourite. Piquant 'got left at the post and took no part in the race, Tinohari just beatins Bonlite.
